Tiger's eye is a member of the chalcedony family, exhibiting parallel intergrowths of quartz and altered amphibole. Its defining traits are a silky luster and the captivating cat's eye "chatoyancy", visible in various bands of light and dark golden-browns. This particular tiger's eye was originally golden-brown, but was subsequently heated-treated to approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit to bring out a dark, earthy-red color. Our powdered material consists of mostly silt and clay sized particles. Our powders do have a slight grit to them. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart. Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 7 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 2.64 - 2.69 Luster: Silk, Greasy Color: Earthy Red Origin: South Africa This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized.
