Atlantisite is a rare metamorphic rock that consists of a purple mineral, named stichtite, that is intergrown with green serpentine. These metamorphic minerals form near areas where hydrothermal alteration has happened in the Earth's crust. This occurs when heated fluids penetrate the host rock and chemically modify other “host” minerals to produce serpentine and stichtite.  This particular Atlantisite powder is of exceptional quality (Grade A) with a light purple hue. Our powdered material consists of mostly silt and clay sized particles. Our powders do have a slight grit to them. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 1.5 - 2 (Stichtite), 2.5 - 5.5 (Serpentine) Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 2.44 - 2.80 Luster: Opaque, Dull Color: Purple Origin: South Africa This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized. Pictures are taken in full sun and material is dry. Size measurements are using the metric system (millimeters).
