This intricately beaded pincushion is an antique from the late 1800s. Likely Iroquois or other eastern Great Lakes region. This Niagara-style beadwork is made of green velvet in a fleur de lis shape with a red cotton back. The glass beads in the raised design and loops are hand sewn with thread. This type of "cross-cultural art," using native beading styles and European fabrics and designs, was created by the Iroquois and others to appeal to the busy tourist trade of the time.Dimensions: approximately 7 1/4" wide x 8" long + 2 1/2” deep + dangle loops are 1 3/4" longCondition - from a collector - good condition for age, beadwork is largely intact but missing some beads from the loops, staining and fading on back.GM40
