Salem Dark Fig Tree

Salem Dark is a delicious, berry-favored fig with a dark purple exterior and a deep red interior. The berry flavors on these figs are intense, and many say they taste just like berry jam! We mostly eat them fresh off the tree, but these figs make some of the best fig jelly you've ever had! They start producing figs for us in the mid-summer months and usually give us 2-3 rounds of production until our first frost. Salem Dark is a variety that originated in Syria. It was brought to the US by Bass Samaan who named the variety after his Uncle Salem. Bass brought this variety in addition to many others from Lebanon to Pennsylvania when he moved to the US. Salem Dark reportedly grows well in the northeast and is cold-hardy once established. In addition to producing delicious figs, this variety produces beautiful trees that tend to grow more upright than other fig varieties.
