Elegant painted terracotta figure of soldier, dating to the Tang dynasty 618-907 AD. This warrior is shown standing at attention, with the feet planted firmly together and arms held toward body. Figure displays helmet, elaborate suit of armor with ornate breastplate and shoulder guards. Piece adorned with loose robe tied to waste and flaring trousers. His left hand is held by his side and right hand by midriff, hand pierced to hold wooden spear that has been since perished (wood of this age unfortunately almost always disintegrate).
