Authentic Pre-Columbian Monochrome blackware pottery jug Artifact from the Northern Coast of Peru. This vessel from the Chimu Culture dates from the Intermediate Period circa 1100-1470 CE (AD). Unique mold-formed blackware pottery jug presenting a round base, a spherical body, a long neck, and a bulbous spout featuring the head of a bird with target-shaped eyes and a pointed beak. The avian animal looks down upon a relief of fish aligned in a horizontal band under swirling waves of water that decorates the shoulder of this ancient vessel. A slender strip of clay protrudes from the back of the bird's head and ends on the jug's shoulder, forming a lovely ribbon-like handle. A gorgeous example of blackware from Chimu culture!
