The red keystone is the official emblem of the State of Pennsylvania and the 28th Division was originally a Pennsylvania National Guard unit. The Germans called it the 'Bloody Bucket' because of the blood-red keystone insignia and vicious fighting tactics it used during the Normandy Campaign.
