Introduction to Naked Raku- May
DESCRIPTION Introduction to Raku Firing This hands-on workshop introduces students to Raku: an ancient Japanese alternative firing technique which involves removing pieces from a kiln while still hot and placing them in combustible materials to starve the piece of oxygen. This interactive and communal process creates one of a kind, decorative ceramic art. Participants should make and bring 2 ceramic pieces that have been bisque fired. Only Raku clay and Raku glaze should be used to make pieces. Items that are Raku fired are not food safe so please keep this in mind when deciding what to bring for firing. We have 3 types of clay that we recommend that we sell at our store if you need to purchase some. Georgie's Piepenburg Raku- Great for sculpting and handbuildling Laguna B mix cone 5- Great for wheel throwing, really soft Georgie's Trail Mix- Soft with added sand for strength, great for handbuilding and wheel This will be a 4 hour hands-on, communal firing where students will try different methods to introduce color, carbon, and imprinting into their pieces. At the end, participants are invited to stay around for a friendly group critique and clean up. What to bring/wear: Non-polyester clothing such as denim and cotton. Long pants, long sleeve shirts, and close toed shoes are required. Students with long hair will be asked to pull it back or contain it to minimize risk of burns. Wildling will provide multiple combustible materials such as newspapers, sawdust, horse hair, and chicken feathers to use in the firing. Safety equipment will be provided. We require a full 2 weeks notice of cancellation to receive any refund or exchange. Thank you for understanding. Wildling Collaborative Arts is an Artists Collective in Eugene OR founded in 2023.
