Run by native Fabrizio Iuli and his American-born wife, Summer Wolff (whose own wines have been featured in past clubs), the estate’s first vines were planted in 1930. Today, Iuli remains one of the few producers in the town of Montaldo di Cerrina. The family is committed to organic farming with minimal intervention in the cellar. Fans of Iuli already know there’s a trademark lightness to their wines, which highlights the area’s limestone soils and cool northerly climate. The estate’s “Rossore,” made from 100% Barbera, is no exception. Slightly herbal on the nose, with aromas of sun-dried tomatoes and oregano along with black cherries and plums, it’s a more ethereal expression of Barbera that highlights the grape’s naturally high acidity.
