Stellar Beam Calcite on Drusy Quartz with Sphalerite
A Stellar Beam Calcite perched atop a sparkly bed of Drusy Quartz and Sphalerite crystals from the Cumberland Mine in Smith County, Tennessee. This variety of Calcite is often referred to as "Stellar Beam" Calcite in allusion to its rocket-ship shape. The soft golden yellow and light orange color of the Calcite is perfectly accented by the glittering Quartz crystals and rich ruby colored Sphalerite crystals. The Calcite crystal has a unique slightly curved shape. The Cumberland Mine is located within the same geologic zone as the equally famous Elmwood Mine down the road.
