
Glockenapfel Apple
USDA Certified Organic Glockenapfel apple tree is a wonderful old heirloom from cental Europe, still grown quite widely in Switzerland and Germany. The Glockenapfel apple is traditionally recognized as Pomme Cloche "bell apple". It is primarily a cooking apple, and is the traditional variety used for strudel. The distinctive bell-shaped variety Glockenapfel, remains a favorite for apple strudel in Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Germany. The apples are medium to large and bell-shaped. The flesh is yellowish white to white, very firm and crisp, moderately juicy, pleasantly tart with slight sweetness. They have a piquancy when cooked, and a mellow lemon tang when eaten out of hand. The Glockenapfel apples retain its shape and is a tasty complement in form and texture to the best of the baking apples. The Glockenapfel apple tree ripens very late, with a long shelf life.
