Dester Tomato
Dester is an heirloom variety of tomato brought to the United States from Germany by the family of Dr. Herbert Edgar Dester, a medical doctor and Mennonite missionary. The family heirloom was shared with the doctor's Amish housekeeper, Anna, who brought it with her when she relocated with her community to Missouri. It eventually made its way into the hands of local farmer, Larry Pierce, who donated it to Seed Savers Exchange. Regular leaved plants produce amazing yields of large, pink tomatoes that reach up to 2 pounds each. The beefsteak-type fruit have an excellent, sweet flavor and are perfect for making large, flavorful slices that cover an entire bun or slice of bread. One of our favorites for hamburgers and sandwiches. Matures approximately 80 days from transplant. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
