Victorian Carved Bone Egg Charm

The egg has long been the symbol of fertility and rebirth, so it comes as no surprise that those superstitious Victorians couldn't get enough of them! In the 1890s, tiny bone egg charms, such as this one, became quite the rage. Some were delicately hand painted, some were intricately carved and some even opened to reveal a tiny bone chick inside. This petite piece screws open and would have originally had a small carved bone chick inside. Unfortunately, our fine feather friend has flown the coop. So now it's up to you to decide what tiny surprise you would like your egg to contain. Charm has a brass split ring, which allows it to function as a pendant, charm or even a watch fob.
