Throughout history and in different cultures owls have always been revered.  They were often seen as a bad omen, associated with death and witches.  The Ancient Romans would nail owls to their doors to ward off evil.  However, this was not the superstition in Ancient Greece and Japan where the owl was thought to bring good luck and fortune.  The Greeks believed owls had the wisdom and their own inner light which allowed them to fly at night.  Athena, the goddess of wisdom, was so impressed with their large eyes and solemn appearance that they became her favorite bird.   This petite charm is fashioned out of intricately carved bone.  The owl's eyes are set with rubies and it has 14k gold glasses secured with a chain.   There is a gold bale for adding to your favorite charm necklace.   Additional Details Date: Mid-century Materials: 14k gold, bone Measurements: 1" x 1/2" Markings: 14k Condition: Excellent Cleaning and Care Mild soap and water with soft cloth.
