In the first state dust jacket with the "First Edition" statement and $2.75 price present on the front flap (Goldstone & Payne, A12, a).     New York: The Viking Press, 1939. Publisher's original beige cloth, lettered and decorated in brown, pictorial endpapers; pp. vi, 619. A, about near fine copy in an about very good dust jacket. Binding is sturdy and square, a touch shaken, minimal shelfwear to boards with a bit of toning to spine and extremities. Internally clean with no markings. Jacket shows some shelfwear with chipping to spine tips, spine toned, splitting along flap folds with a few spots of loss, tape reinforcements to verso. Presents well, protected in archival mylar.
