Fava Bean Seeds - Santa Isabel
Vicia faba This small-seeded fava was collected at a market in Santa Isabel, Ecuador. It isadapted to warmer temperatures than most favas, although it will still struggle to set pods in very hot weather. Beans are mostly creamy-green colored with occasional red ones sprinkled in. Direct seed into the garden in early spring or fall for overwintering. This bean does not tolerate heat. Provide a trellis for these beans. Fava beans will need full sun and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, fava beans will need at least an inch of water per week. Harvest at any size to eat the whole pods when small or the large beans when shelled. Annual. SMALL FARM GROWN by Oak Springs Garden Foundation, Upperville, VA
