Dating to the early 1900s and possibly a Cracker Jack prize - premium, may I offer this small lapel pin depicting a cat playing a fiddle. Yes, the design is based on a Mother Goose nursery rhyme - Hey Diddle Diddle, The Cat and the Fiddle, The Cow Jumped Over the Moon..... The pin measures a small 1-5/8" high while the design at the top measures 3/4" x 5/16". Unknown black metal and yes, as you can see by the pictures, the pinstem at the back pivots all around. Good strike to the piece - some patina of age to the piece - DEFINITELY antique. An adorable antique piece of costume jewelry that would fit in well with a toy collection. Wouldn't this pin look terrific on a doll or teddy bear? (ry)
