This is an antique Wedgwood jasperware biscuit barrel, made in the 1800's. Made in England, it features a deep, rich blue jasperware body adorned with a detailed scene from Greek and Roman mythology. The matte finish—distinctive to jasperware and introduced by Josiah Wedgwood in 1774—is a beautiful contrast to the crisp white reliefs. The barrel rests on three ball feet and is framed by silverplate collars at both the top and bottom. A handle arches above, while the lid—with its fluted design and delicate finial—sits atop. This measures 7" tall. The collar is just a little loose on top, but otherwise excellent antique condition.
