.25-20 W.C.F. Standard Rifle - 1947 - SPECIAL ORDER
125 years ago Winchester necked down the .32-20 and called it the .25-20 WCF. First offered in 1895 in the Winchester model 1892 rifle, the .25-20 WCF would become a popular small game cartridge at the turn of the century. But 4 decades later when the model 70 first appeared on the scene, the .25-20 was nearly obsolete, having been eclipsed by much higher performing cartridges. And this is what makes this 1947 model 70 chambered in this ancient lever rifle cartridge such an oddball and such a mystery. Someone passed over the .22 Hornet, .220 Swift, .257 Roberts and several other factory small bore options and special ordered this rifle in the lowly .25-20 WCF. We know of 3 other model 70s in this chambering, but there can't be too many more than the 4 we're aware of. It's an extraordinarily rare model 70 and in truly superb condition. This is a beautiful standard rifle produced in 1947 which retains all original factory finishes. It is a type-II transition rifle with the post-war style
