This is a gorgeous and aesthetic mini specimen! This small cluster of white to palest pink Calcite platelets has grown accented by two clear to palest green fluorite cubes, for a high contrast specimen. There are accents of metallic sulfide minerals, which may be pyrrhotite. Delicate layers of crystallization define the hexagonal calcite platelets, which displays lustrous faces—there is damage and the edges and plates are not perfect, but the overall effect is very pleasing. This small, lightly shaded cluster has a sweet personality, and also fluoresces under shortwave UV! Truly a wonderful crystal to display, admire, and work with energetically. Locality: El Hammam mine, Fès-Meknès Region, Morocco. Dimensions: 1.50” x 1.25” x 0.88” (38mm x 31mm x 23mm) Weight: 29 g (1.1 oz) El Hammam mine is the only fluorite mine in Morocco—it is named for the mountain on which it sits, Djebel el Hammam. The El Hammam mine works several different veins—this familiar pale fluorite is found in the El Hammam vein. This vein is more than 4 km long, and yields fluorite, calcite, pyrrhotite and other sulfides, and dolomite. Calcite is calcium carbonate, and forms the widest variety of habits and colors of any mineral. It is a soft mineral-- 2 on Moh's scale--so care must be taken during display. A wonderful aspect: these crystals fluoresce a beautiful orange-pink shade under UV light. Fluorite is a halide mineral which may form in nearly any color! Healing: It is believed that white and soft pink calcite supports emotional healing, deep compassion, and a sense of joy.
