Azurite Malachite Matrix Milpillas Layer Cake High Quality Pseudomorph Blue Green Small Cluster Rocks and Minerals Mineral Specimen Mexico
This is a fabulous small “layer cake” specimen of high-quality Azurite and Malachite, and it comes from the famous Milpillas Mine, Mexico. This beautiful and sculptural little cluster is composed of rich blue and green colors, sandwiched between graphic tan matrix layers. The blue azurite and the green malachite radiate a striking combination of ultramarine and deep green shades, with tiny hints of turquoise-colored chrysocolla! The azurite crystals zigzag across the cluster, protruding from one single layer—I think of it as a sculptural “layer cake” of bands of contrasting minerals and colors. One of my favorite aspects is seeing the roots of the deep blue crystals beginning to alter into the green of the malachite; this is known as a pseudomorph (when one mineral replaces another but retains the habit of the original mineral.) This amazing and totally unique small collector specimen will be a winning addition to your specimen or healing collection! Locality: Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Mun. de Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. Dimensions: 1.63” x 1.38” x 1.00” (41mm x 36mm x 26mm) Weight: 35 g (1.2 oz) Milpillas Mine is considered one of the world's best-known sources for finely crystallized Azurite and malachite pseudomorphs, as well as cuprite and other copper-bearing minerals. Azurite is a member of the carbonate group, and forms as a result of weathering of copper ore deposits. Azurite may crystallize, and often forms in the botryoidal (or globular) habit. Malachite is a copper-bearing mineral that is well known for its beautiful fibrous and botryoidal growth habits. Malachite and azurite grow in association with other copper-bearing minerals, such as cuprite, chrysocolla, and copper. These minerals are typically found in association with copper veins, and for this reason may also be found in areas known for turquoise. HEALING: Azurite is associated with the sixth chakra, the third eye. It is believed to enhance intuition and activate psychic abilities. It is thought to stimulate the mind, and help to release ingrained ideas and embrace new thought patterns. Malachite is considered a masculine stone, and is associated with the fire element and the heart chakra. It is believed to protect the heart, enhance leadership and decision making, and support vitality and creativity. *Though many gems and minerals have historical and cultural associations with healing properties, these items are sold for display, study, and collector interest only.
