This is a tough, hard (not extra hard), high melting point (~230F) wax.  It was originally sold as a "machining wax", intended for use on milling machines (or lathes, etc) when machinists need to do prototyping, but can also be used as a hand carving wax. As a machining wax, it's used when expensive to machine parts need to be made for test fitting before going directly to machining in metal. It can be melted into an initial shape close to the part needed. It will not dull expensive cutters and can be remelted and used again.
