Repurposing steel slag for use in concrete as an ecological and economical additive for improving the properties of concrete. As its name implies this is a cement, not a pozzolan (fly ash and metakaolin are pozzolans). It can be added to concrete as a partial replacement for White Portland Cement (because of it's light color) or regular Portland Cement (10% to 70%). The energy required for producing pure portland cement is notoriously high. Replacing a portion of the portland cement in concrete with slag cement therefore saves energy.
