An altered form of hectorite, this is a hydrous magnesium sodium silicate used as a plasticizer in clays. It's similar in this way to macaloid, bentonite, and veegum T. It's also used in glazes as a suspending agent and binder. Like bentonite and macaloid, it's a member of the smectite group of minerals. It is a dry processed calcium hectorite, a plastic magnesium-rich sodium hectorite clay of microfine particles. Hectorite is mostly used in making cosmetics, but has uses in ceramics, chemical and other industrial applications, and is a mineral source for refined lithium metal....(see more)
