This is a bright yellow "azo" pigment meaning it's a pigment made from a dye bonded to an inorganic and thus it has a degree of transparency. This is also a low density powder, so buying it by weight gives you a lot of volume. Carmine red and phthalo green are two other organic pigments we carry that start out as dyes. We picked it to be our bright yellow pigment because a lot of the yellows, like cadmium, chrome, or naples yellow are all pretty toxic (when you're handling the dry pigment). Cobalt yellow is not quite as bad, and we may carry it in the future....(see more)
