We have 3 grades of black iron oxide: natural (magnetite) granular coarse, synthetic fine, and this grade, natural fine (magnetite). If you're using a black iron oxide as a pigment, you'll want to know the 3 grades do vary from a speckled dark gray (the speckles are bright and reflective, probably small flakes of mica), a dark gray, and a deep black. This is a natural black iron oxide which comes from the mineral magnetite. This is a somewhat coarser grade of black than the synthetic black iron oxide. It's a grayer, warmer black than the synthetic black iron oxides because of the natural impurities....(see more)
