Rainbow moonstone is a type of white feldspar that can have bright flashes of iridescent blue. This optical effect is due to light waves interacting within the crystalline lattice and this "play of light" is called the schiller effect. This particular rainbow moonstone is from India and is grade A material. Unfortunately, the moonstone flash is not preserved when the mineral has been progressively pulverized into tiny pieces. Our medium material is considered to be sand sized (very coarse sand to fine sand), ranging between 2 millimeters to 0.25 millimeters. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 6 - 6.5 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 2.52 - 2.75 Luster: Vitreous Color: White  Origin: India This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized. Pictures are taken in full sun and material is dry. Size measurements are using the metric system (millimeters), including the metric ruler (cm/mm) as shown in the product photos.
