This optical effect is due to light waves interacting within the crystalline lattice and this "play of light" is called the schiller effect. This particular labradorite is from Madagascar and is grade A material. Unfortunately, the labradorite flash is not preserved when the mineral has been progressively pulverized into tiny pieces. Our medium material is considered to be sand sized (very coarse sand to fine sand), ranging between 2 millimeters to 0.25 millimeters. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 6 - 6.5 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 2.65 - 2.74 Luster: Vitreous Color: Light Grey  Origin: Madagascar This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized.
