The rich green, rounded leaf pairs of Lithops fulviceps ‘Aurea’ feature a polka dot pattern on the flattened upper surface – which is not only decorative, but functional, as the dots are actually translucent ‘windows’ allowing light to reach deep into the recesses of the largely underground leaves and taproot. During the summer months, white blooms with hundreds of yellow stamens will emerge from the cleft between the leaves, adding yet another layer of whimsy to this dainty member of the mesembs, or mimicry plant, family. Plenty of bright light will allow ‘Aurea’ to thrive, while also encouraging ample blooms. Like other varieties of Lithops, this specimen can be tricky when it comes to water – be sure to water thoroughly but infrequently during the spring and fall, ceasing to water entirely during the summer and winter, thus allowing the plant to draw from its own stores. Very porous soil within a well-draining pot will further shield against issues such as rot, as will ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface. The blooms and old leaf pairs will begin to fade and shrivel at the end of the fall season, acting as a built-in indicator of when to stop watering, not resuming until the weather warms in the spring. Until then, be sure to shield ‘Aurea’ from freezing temperatures, which could otherwise damage the very water-rich leaves. NOTE: Every 2" pot contains 1 lithop. Every 2.5" pot may contain 1-3 individual lithops depending on current availability. ***This plant is not available for wholesale***
