Castile Soap

Castile soap has a very long and sordid history. The formulations you see now, made with pure olive oil, are born after the original laurel oil that was combined with olive oil, was difficult to obtain in Europe. This bar of Castile soap is made with an oil blend of olive oil pomace and rice bran oil. It is used in a variety of applications and not just for hand washing. You can make everything from laundry detergent to ant repellant from Castile soap. It is commonly use by fabric artists for washing and blocking their works and for the needle felting process in which you stab a pile of wool a bunch of times with needles. How metal is that? This is one of the most gentle soaps that you can buy and is often used for pets, babies, and for those with sensitive skin. It typically has a cure time of about a year due to the soft oils, but I used a water discount as well as sodium lactate to help speed the process along. It is still a soft bar, but with proper storage it can be as long lasting as our soaps that use coconut oil.
