RARE Mayan Small Squash aka Calabacita Chica Heirloom Squash Vegetable Seeds Zucchini Substitute For Hot ClimatesCucurbita pepoThis is a very tough cultivar of squash traditionally grown by indigenous populations in South America. Fruits are harvested young, when they are still light green with white streaks to be used as a zucchini substitute (see first picture). They are diced and cooked into soups or stuffed and baked. Plants are vigorous and sprawl out 15FT in all directions. It doesn't seem to catch powdery mildew as bad as all the other squash type things that I grow. Plants produce fruits that can be variable in shape and color. Some are light green while others are more dark green. Some are nice and round, while others are more oblong in shape (see second picture). If allowed to mature on the vine all the way until the skin
