It was discovered in a remote area of a town called Mathania (hence its name). It is a historic and culturally significant pepper that is a key ingredient in many Indian dishes. The long pods start green and then turn a vibrant red when fully ripe. They are known to have a moderate amount of spiciness with a fruity flavor.
