Health and Healing — For years there was a doctrine that treated the body as though it was a machine. The idea that our thoughts could influence our health and wellbeing was considered a wife’s tale until just this past twenty-five years or so. Today a body of solid research has repeatedly demonstrated just how powerful our thoughts and expectations are. A strong positive attitude can reduce and even eliminate pain while accelerating the healing process. The term used today to explain this phenomenon is psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). As one might expect, this mouth full when broken down simply says, psycho (the mind, attitudes, beliefs, expectations) combined with neuro (brain chemistry resulting from our attitudes, moods, and emotions) immunology (immunizes our body and acts on our nervous system).
