"Nature Loving On Vashon" Large Scale Hand Pressed Print
The dimensions of the print are 38.5" x 38.5". The hanger strips at the top and bottom are 41" wide. A linocut is a printmaking technique where an artist carves a design into a block oflinoleum, then inks the raised, uncarved areas and presses the block onto paper tocreate a print, essentially resulting in a mirror image of the carved design; the areas cutaway remain uninked on the paper, creating the negative space in the image. Artist's Statement I dreamed of an octopus embracing Vashon Island. I then spent the summer carving my dream into a sheet of linoleum. Finally, after applying black ink onto the linoleum block in the parking lot at Vashon Center for the Arts, I drove a steamroller over it to print it onto paper. And here it is.
