The Puffy Triangles smocking pattern features interwoven 3D triangles with triangular holes and I came up with this design by considering what would happen if certain points on an origami tessellation of open triangle twists were pulled closer together. The texture is formed by stitching groups of points together on the wrong side of the fabric - no folding needed! Since these patterns can be repeated infinitely to cover any size of fabric, the PDF shows a subset of the pattern that can be printed or cut out with a Cricut so it can be used as a stencil to copy the pattern onto whatever size of fabric you're using for your project. This particular pattern would need curved creases to make in paper, like Jeannine Mosely's Sails, yet it's among the easiest possible smocking patterns with no required order of pulling groups of points together. This is an ideal smocking pattern for Christmas stockings, pillows, and more projects where you want a puffy texture that maintains its appearance e
