Capsicum chinense Origin: St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands Improvement status: Landrace Seeds per packet: ~10 Germination tested 08/2024: 96% Life cycle: Annual This type of "seasoning pepper", from St. Thomas, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is quite popular and ubiquitous there, though peppers like this are still very rare beyond the islands. Similar to others found in St. Croix and elsewhere in the Caribbean, they have a strong flavor similar to a Scorpion-type pepper, but with very little heat at all (if any). Most fruit are red, but some plants may produce yellow or orange fruit. These seeds come to us from longtime EFN grower Kevin Bane, of Philadelphia, Tennessee, and are part of his effort to find milder hot peppers that still have great flavor.
