The French Quarter Killers: A True Story of Murder and Scandal by the Detective Who Solved the Case

Booklist calls it "an entertainingly lurid walk on the wild side"; certainly the jacket copy is not shy about fluffing the author's role in turning around a case in which protected witnesses got killed during a drug kingpin's trial.  Someone may have tried to kill, or at least nibble on, this book? The paperback has a small bite out of the front cover at lower right, and there's some edgewear and page toning. But it's perfectly readable, the spine isn't cracked, and it fits in a cargo pocket.
