Hasui 巴水: Autumn in Koshiji 秋の越路 (Sold)
Artist: Kawase Hasui 川瀬巴水 (1883-1957) Title: Autumn in Koshiji 秋の越路 Series: Souvenirs of Travels, First Series (旅みやげ第一集 Date: 1920 Hasui himself describes this scene the best: “In the autumn, travelers to Koshiji can see harvested rice stalks drying on poles that resemble high walls. A contrast is easily produced between the blue Sea of Japan and the yellowing rice stalks . Set against the harvested stalks and white waves of sea, a bent-over old woman picks up debris from among the red beans that are laid out on a straw mat.” Another surprisingly emotional design that evokes this specific time and place with heartfelt precision. Rare, pre-earthquake design in mint, unfaded condition. Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Mint.
