Catalin is a form of early phenolic resin (plastic), similar to bakelite, that was popular during the 1930s-1940s, and is highly collectible today due to its beautiful marbled colors. The catalin/bakelite parts on this piece are in good condition and have been polished by hand to bring out their deep and naturally varied color while retaining their natural patina.
