Large, crinkled, asymmetrical leaves (like upside-down teardrops?) colored light olive-green above and reddish-green below form large mounds. Clusters of 1-inch, pink blooms rise above the leaves on reddish-pink stems from mid-summer to early fall. Happiest in shade with regularly moist but not heavy soil, B. grandis will self-propagate by forming bulblets in the leaf axils which drop to the soil in the fall (or you can collect the bulblets and plant them in pots). Mature size: 1.5–2 feet T & W Minimum temperature: -10° F Photo of flowers (front) Alpsdake, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons.
