Antique Japanese Satsuma Plate Kannon Bosatsu 観音菩薩 Dharma Teaching with Eight Rakans 羅漢 Signed: Kyokuzan, Circa: Meiji period, 1868-1912 H 9.4 in. (24cm), W 9.4 in. (24cm), D 1 in. (2.5cm) Condition: excellent! Decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt on a transparent crackled glaze, with revolving foliage bordered into geometric patterns, depicting a sacred gathering scene in the center, where a seated Kannon Bosatsu and eight Rakans are engaging in spiritual discourse, as Sudhana the Golden Boy acolyte listening attentively nearby, in the landscape afar are a pagoda and a pavilion in the rolling hills. Signed on the underside in gilt over crimson cachet: Kyokuzan.
