Max Size:  6"-7"Description: The Eureka Red Peacock, scientifically known as Aulonocara jacobfreibergi, is a captivating cichlid known for its vibrant red-orange body coloration adorned with blue highlights on both its fins and body. Males are typically more colorful and larger than females, boasting a deep body, pointed head, and a sloping forehead. This cichlid is also referred to as Freiberg's peacock or fairy cichlid. The Eureka Red Peacock is a man-made variant, line-bred for its distinct coloration, and does not naturally occur in the wild. Aquarium Size and Conditions: Size: A minimum tank capacity of 55 gallons is recommended, though larger tanks are preferable to accommodate their territorial nature. Water Parameters: Temperature: Between 77° and 84°F. pH: Alkaline water with a pH ranging from 7.5 to 9.0. Hardness: 10–20 dH. Tank Setup: Eureka Red Peacocks are rock-dwelling cichlids. Their habitat should include ample swimming space and an array of caves and rock formations to establish territories. Feeding Recommendations: Eureka Red Peacocks are omnivores with diverse dietary preferences: Wild Diet: In their natural habitat, they consume small crustaceans, algae, and cichlid fry. Captive Diet: A mix of high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes, supplemented with live foods such as blood worms, snails, or brine shrimp. Frozen, flake, or pellet foods are also accepted. Feeding Frequency: It's advisable to feed them twice daily. For mature cichlids, occasional fasting, like one day per week, can help regulate their metabolism. Additional Notes: The Eureka Red Peacock is a hybrid variant and is not native to any natural habitats. Males exhibit a striking red body with vibrant blue and black stripes, and a light metallic blue hue graces their faces, extending from just past their pectoral fins to their tails. They are relatively peaceful cichlids, making them compatible with other non-aggressive fish species. However, male Eureka Red Peacocks can be slightly territorial, so providing them with ample space and hiding spots is crucial. When breeding, Eureka Red Peacocks should be conditioned separately with specific foods like mosquito larvae, bloodworms, and crustaceans.
