Fine Antique Burl Walnut Inlaid Marquetry Carved Davenport Secretary Desk 1860

A very fine antique burl & figured walnut marquetry Davenport desk, circa 1860. The davenport is made from the finest highly figured burl walnut, to the top is a lift up lid with a fitted interior for pens, envelopes & other writing materials.Below is a lift up slant-fronted lid with a blind tooled brown leather inset writing surface, both the top & front are finely inlaid with floral satinwood marquetry inlay. To the inside is a storage well with four interior drawers (the top two are dummy) with ebony handles, the interior is lined in blond maple. The knee area below the desk is inlaid with satinwood line inlay, this is flanked by a pair of carved & reticulated brackets with spiral columns terminating to carved acanthus leaf corbel bracket supports. The right side of the Davenport having a set of four drawers, each with a pair of small bun shaped pulls, the left side having four corresponding dummy drawers.
