
Antique Georgian Sheraton Marquetry Mahogany Bureau Bookcase Butler's Secretary Circa 1810
A very fine antique Georgian Sheraton period inlaid mahogany bureau bookcase/butler's secretary, circa 1810.This bureau bookcase is of the very highest quality and is of diminutive size, the bookcase secretary is made of figured Cuban mahogany & is beautifully inlaid with satinwood & fruitwood marquetry inlay.The desk & bookcase is in two sections, to the top is a 'Swan's Neck' pediment inlaid with floral rosettes and flowering marquetry, below are a pair of astragal glazed doors, the doors inlaid with satinwood stringing and enclose two shelves.The base having four drawers; the top drawer inlaid with corresponding floral marquetry and a hinged fall front that opens and locks into place smoothly and easily, the fall front provides a flat writing surface. The interior is fitted with six pigeon holes & three drawers each with the original gilded cast brass circular pulls, the three drawers below are crossbanded with satinwood and all have the original gilded brass handles
