Spartan Sword Description The spartan sword is a single-edged, one-handed Iron Age straight short sword used by ancient Greeks. The classic blade was between 25” and 35” in. It was generally hung from a baldric under the left arm. The spartan sword was generally used only after the spear was discarded for close combat. Very few original spartan swords have survived. The concave shape of the blade, with the enlarging portion closer to the tip, helped deliver a powerful chop, similar to an axe. The handle had a inward curve to shelter the hand during the blows.  Blade Materials The sword is made from 1095 steel. 1095 steel is the highest carbon steel commonly used in swords.
