This thick goban set came to Baduk Club from a shop in Fukuoka. The board is 19cm thick, which is incredibly large. It stands 31cm tall with 12cm legs. It comes with its original protective lid. It looks like Shin-Kaya, which is Alaskan Spruce.  It has a Ten-Masa or Oi-Masa cut, which provides straight lines on the top and endgrain - it is hard to tell which cut this is because a photo was not taken of the underside. These plain-sawn cuts are the highest-regarded cut for fine boards, and require an enormous piece of lumber to achieve.  The corners and edges are in good shape, protected by the paulownia lid. There are some subtle signs of the boards quality including the raised lacquer grid and an inscription on the lid. The inscription is from around New Years, 1985, and has 6 surnames, probably indicating that it was given as a gift (perhaps the recipient retired from their company, or achieved a certain Dan rank, etc).
