Patroness of Faith, Heart Disease and Headaches. Born in Castile near Avila (Spain) in 1515, Teresa and her brother loved the idea of becoming a martyr so much so they ran away from home to the land of the Moors only to be found by an uncle who returned them to their worried mother. Teresa's mother died when she was 14. Her father took her to a convent. She returned to her father because of a serious illness. When she was well, she went to the Carmelites and became a nun. With a great deal of struggle, she reformed the Carmelite order. She wrote several deeply spiritual books and is one of the great mystics of the church as well as one of three female doctors of the church. Lynn Garlick Retablos grew organically over a period of 20 years. To create these heart-felt paintings of saints, angels and blessings, Lynn has brought to the folk art of Retablo making, all the skills and passions that she has learned through a lifetime of drawing, woodworking and painting.
