
St. Francis de Sales Retablo Ornament
The Patron Saint of Writers, Editors, Publishers, Book Binders and Paper Makers. He was the Catholic Duke of Savoy. The majority of his subjects, along Lake Geneva in 1593, had become Calvinists. He tried to bribe them to come back to the Catholic Church. That did not work, so he began to write. He wrote the classic, "Introduction to the Devout Life", he took his book and wandered among his subjects. The Calvinists, more than 40,000 people, eventually came back to Catholicism because of his efforts. Lynn Garlick Retablos grew organically over a period of 20 years. To create these heart-felt paintings of saints, angels and blessings, Lynn has brought to the folk art of Retablo making, all the skills and passions that she has learned through a lifetime of drawing, woodworking and painting. She is a long time resident of Taos, New Mexico. Moved by the sacred art of the retablo paintings and the santeros (saint makers) who made them, she started creating them herself.
