Saint Nicholas Retablo Wall Hanging
Nicholas was Bishop of Myra in Turkey. He knew of three young woman who were going to have to live a life of prostitution because their father could not afford a dowry. One night Nicholas threw a bag of gold through their bedroom window and saved them from this life of shame. During a famine he miraculously provided bread for the poor. Also, during the same famine he was walking by a butcher shop that had meat in the window. He went into the shop. There he found three little boys. He saved them from the butcher knife. Lynn Garlick Retablos grew organically over a period of 20 years. To create these heart-felt paintings of saints, angels and blessings, Lynn has brought to the folk art of Retablo making, all the skills and passions that she has learned through a lifetime of drawing, woodworking and painting. She is a long time resident of Taos, New Mexico. Moved by the sacred art of the retablo paintings and the santeros (saint makers) who made them, she started creating them herself.
