Saint Dunstan is the Patron Saint of Blacksmiths, Jewelers, Armorers and Locksmiths. Dunstan was the Archbishop of Canterbury, England in the 10th century. He was banished by the King Edwy for accusing the king of adultery. During his exile he took up blacksmithing. The Devil was said to have come to him disguised as a woman. Dunstan recognized the Devil and caught him by the nose with his tongs. In 957 AD, He was restored to office by the new King Edgar. Lynn Garlick Retablos grew organically over a period of 20 years. To create these heart-felt paintings of saints, angels and blessings, Lynn has brought to the folk art of Retablo making, all the skills and passions that she has learned through a lifetime of drawing, woodworking and painting. She is a long time resident of Taos, New Mexico. Moved by the sacred art of the retablo paintings and the santeros (saint makers) who made them, she started creating them herself.
